I’m linking up with Anne from In Residence to share what I’m CURRENTLY celebrating, collecting, gifting, thinking, and trying. Here we go! I am CURRENTLY: celebrating: our 32nd wedding anniversary! Our actual wedding anniversary abounded with emotion, not only from deep love for my guy, but also because that’s the day our son and daughter-in-law headed back home to Alaska after being in our local area for a few weeks. Goodbyes stink, y’all! But never fear! We celebrated the next…

Autumn Adventures 2020 – Final Update

Autumn Adventures 2020 – Final Update

It’s time to take a look at my Autumn Adventure List and see how I did! You can see the original list HERE. Camping. DONE! As I mentioned in my original post, Gene and I camped for several days near Chattanooga, Tennessee in September. In October we headed up to Asheville, North Carolina, another of our favorite camping/hiking areas. We had a great time in spite of some rain and temps that were warmer than we had hoped. We hiked…

Top Ten Posts for 2016 – Most Popular

What a fun year here at OutAndBack!  Thank you for stopping by, reading a while, and cheering me on!  Here are the ten most popular posts for 2016 (based on number of views). 1.  Electric Pressure Cooker – YES!  My initial foray into the world of electric pressure cookers.  I started with the Farberware model; here’s what I thought of it.  (Coming soon:  a post comparing this to the Instant Pot that I purchased later.)   2.  Michael Ann’s Kitchen …

I Did It! #Write31Days

I Did It! #Write31Days

Wow!  I’m sitting here in a Halloween carb coma–I blame the Moon Pies, pork lo mein, and Dairy Queen Pumpkin Pie Blizzard that may or may not have been consumed tonight–and I’m thinking back over the last few weeks and what I’ve experienced.  Some of my expectations of this Write 31 Days challenge proved to be accurate, but I was surprised by several things!

Two Key Tools

Two Key Tools

This series ends tomorrow, and I haven’t shared my two key tools in my kitchen! First up is my Breville Hemisphere Control Blender. I had an okay-ish blender for years. I decided to upgrade a few years ago, and I eyed the Vitamix but decided I didn’t want to spend that much money. I bought my Breville instead and have been incredibly pleased with it. It passes the big test, blending smooth, icy drinks easily and consistently.

Vintage Cake Plates

Vintage Cake Plates

“Vintage” seems to be the word of the week!  I’m learning a lot about myself by doing this series.  Apparently I like vintage things more than I thought! Today I want to show you how I use vintage cake plates in a new way. My wonderful mother-in-law gave these to me a while back, and I’ve had fun incorporating them into my kitchen.   The larger one anchors my favorite corner in the kitchen!  It sits beside the stove and…

What’s in the Hutch?

What’s in the Hutch?

A couple of days ago I showed you the sweet, vintage hutch my husband and I bought locally at Finders Keepers Furniture.  It’s working just as well as I had hoped!  I really love it.  (And yes, Arwen quickly hopped up on top of it and snuggled into her basket!) I promised to show you what’s inside the hutch, and then I promptly got distracted by raccoons.  Today I’m back on track!  (No sign of the raccoons today!) Insert a…

Favorite Cookbooks, Part 1

Favorite Cookbooks, Part 1

We’re trekking back in time again today!  Here is the cookbook I grew up with!  I mean THE cookbook I grew up with!   This is The Fannie Farmer Cookbook, and it is the first cookbook I remember using.  As I said the other day, Mama taught me that if I could follow a recipe, I could cook or bake anything I wanted to!  And she was right!  (Here are the basic rules for cooking she shared with me.) Don’t…

Michael Ann’s Kitchen

Michael Ann’s Kitchen

Hi!  Thank you so much for stopping by on this, the first day of Michael Ann’s Kitchen.  When picking a topic for the Write 31 Days Challenge, this immediately sprang to mind.  I spend a LOT of time in my kitchen.  It’s one of my happy places! I do a lot of cooking AND baking here.  It’s also my command center for daily life.  It’s ALSO the place where my husband, daughter and I do a lot of catching up. …
