TBB Asks: Fall Theme

TBB Asks: Fall Theme

Autumn is finally here!  Hooray!  Temps here in Coastal Georgia are finally down to the low 80s!  In celebration of this happy season, I’m linking up with the wonderful ladies of The Blended Blog for another round of “this or that.”  It’s a fun way of getting to know the person behind the blogger!  Let’s go!

TBBfall

1.  Favorite fall sweet treat?   All of it.  Fruity cobblers.  Gingerbread.  Candy corn.  All of it!

2.  Red, yellow, or green apples?  For eating I like red Gala apples.  For baking I’ll snag some green Granny Smith apples.

3.  Favorite fall sport to play?  Is hiking a sport?  Or lying on the beach?  Because I like to do both in autumn when the temps are less likely to bring about heat stroke.

4.  Best drink for fall?  Sweet tea, as always!  Or Jamaican Me Crazy coffee.  Yes.  Well, and hot chocolate.  I had a great hot chocolate with cinnamon at Red Owl Coffee in Valdosta, Georgia this weekend!

5.  Favorite fall activity?  Hiking and lying on the beach, as I mentioned earlier.  I also feel more crafty in the autumn, so let’s add “make crafty things” to the list.  (That actually IS on my Autumn Adventures list!)

6.  Must have fall purchase?  A fresh scarf or pair of boots.  I’m still on the prowl for an embroidered scarf, but I DID snag this fun pair of Teva hikers!  I wear them all the time!

7.  Pumpkins:  pick your own or store bought?  I’ve never been pumpkin picking!  I usually buy my pumpkin in a can.

8.  Real or fake pumpkin?  For baking I prefer to use real pumpkin!

9.  Favorite Halloween costume?  I like the clever, punny ones!

10.  College football or NFL?  College for the fun, NFL for the power.  I enjoy watching both!  (For the sake of all that is good, I’m not entering the NFL debate here!  Thanks!)  My daughter leaves the room when I watch football.  She says I’m loud.  Hmph.  If my Georgia Bulldogs are playing, I do tend to get a little vocal!  Our Dawgs are doing us proud this year!  #godawgs #goyousilverbritches

11.  Fall or Halloween decor?  Fall.

12.  Raking leaves or no leaves to rake?  We have no leaves to rake!  I like leaves, but it’s okay that I don’t have to rake any.

13.  Favorite soup?  Cream of Pumpkin Soup (Kürbiscremesuppe) from the Torschänke in Dudeldof, Germany.  I enjoy making vegetable barley soup and chicken barley chili.  And I’ll be making Kürbiscremesuppe this week now that it’s on my mind!

14.  Favorite fall candle scent?  Anything apple or berries!  These days I’m diffusing an apple cider essential oil, and it’s amazing!

15.  Love or hate pumpkin spice?  Meh.  Neither.  I prefer a nice apple pie spice blend.

16.  Short booties or tall boots?  Tall boots!

17.  Favorite Halloween candy?  I enjoy giving mini moon pies.  #halloweensouthernstyle  #georgiayall

18.  PSL:  yes or no?  No.  I try to avoid the sugary coffees.

19.  Hayride or corn maze?  Corn maze.  This one is fairly local to us.  I should put it on my Autumn Adventures list!

20.  Favorite fall tv show?  Oh, goodness!  I’m a longtime fan of Survivor, and I also enjoy Madam Secretary and Designated Survivor.

Well, that was fun!  I’m eager to see what the other folks in The Blended Blog’s linkup enjoy about autumn!

Have a great week everybody!  What are some of YOUR answers for today’s questions?!?

Top Ten Posts for 2016 – Most Popular

What a fun year here at OutAndBack!  Thank you for stopping by, reading a while, and cheering me on!  Here are the ten most popular posts for 2016 (based on number of views).

1.  Electric Pressure Cooker – YES!  My initial foray into the world of electric pressure cookers.  I started with the Farberware model; here’s what I thought of it.  (Coming soon:  a post comparing this to the Instant Pot that I purchased later.)

2.  Michael Ann’s Kitchen  Day One of the Write 31 Days Challenge.  Welcome to my kitchen!  Let me show you around!  You’ll find the complete list of posts in this series here.

3.  One Carly, Three Ways  LuLaRoe posts have been VERY popular this year!  LuLaRoe fans abound, and for good reason!  If you’ve not succumbed to the LuLaRoe world yet, Carly is one of their wonderful dresses.

4.  Style Perspectives: How Would YOU Wear It?  I linked up with the fabulous ladies at The Blended Blog for this one.  We styled a blazer, tank/t-shirt, and jeans.  Easy peasy and FUN!

5.  Currently – December 2016  Each month I link up with Anne at In Residence for her “Currently” posts.  The topics change every month.  This is a fun post to write AND a fun way to quickly check out bloggers I don’t know.  The variety of responses each month always amazes me!  Beautiful Thomasville, Georgia featured prominently in this “Currently” post.

6.  In the Beginning  This was Day 2 of Michael Ann’s Kitchen, my response to the Write 31 Days blogging challenge.  On this day I shared what Mama taught me about being a successful cook.  She knew what she was talking about!  (Do you suppose my kids will ever say that about me?!?)

7.  Capes!  This post is nearly a year old now, and it’s cape season again!  Check ’em out and see what you think!  (I like THIS cape post a lot better!)

8.  The Letter R and the Elephant  Yes!  THIS is one of my favorite posts of the year!  Funny, funny story!

Currently – December 2016

Currently – December 2016

Hooray for a new Currently link up!  Here’s what I’m currently up to!

Doing:  Visiting new friends in beautiful Thomasville, Georgia!  I met some ladies at the #READSavannah event back in September, and two of them live in Thomasville.  I had been here once before and discovered a delightful downtown area with loads of unique shops and some of the best food I’ve ever eaten.  (I’m looking at you, Jonah’s Fish and Grits!)  I’m here now to invest in these fledgling friendships and to eat more great food!  What a joy it’s been!  I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know Julie and Mary Jane better.

BONUS:  I was also able to meet up with Susie, a “virtual” friend of mine I met on the GYPO Style Challenges.  It was our first time to meet in real life!  Talk about a blessing!  Oh my!  So this friendship, too, has taken great leaps forward this weekend.  I thank God for prompting me to come and spend time with these ladies!

Susie and me in The Book Shelf! I love this book store! It's owned and run by Susie's daughter, Annie.

Enjoying:  Eating my way through Thomasville!  I had lunch yesterday at Savannah Moon Bakery & Cafe; monster grilled cheese and tomato bisque!  Dinner last night was at Jonah’s.  The hush puppies were JUST as amazing as I remembered!  I nearly wept over them the first time I had them.  For real.  Last night I chose (along with hush puppies) grilled mahi and grits with tasso gravy and a side of collard greens.  Y’all!  I was one happy Michael Ann!  This morning I’m blogging from Grassroots Coffee, and in a minute I’m meeting Mary Jane at the Q Cafe for breakfast.  Lunch plans are to be determined.  I’m not ruling out a return trip to Jonah’s!

Cooking:  I tried a new pressure cooker recipe for Chicken Cacciatore last week, and it was a hit!  I used this recipe as a starting point and added a couple of cloves of garlic, a tablespoon or so of capers, and about 1/4 cup (maybe less) white wine.  I used chicken thighs and cooked the whole thing for 15 minutes as the recipe said, then served it over brown rice (cooked in my second pressure cooker).

Wrapping:  I’d love to say I’m wrapping up my Christmas shopping, but I’m just getting started!  Thomasville offers some amazing shopping!  Did I mention that already?

Firefly is one of my favorite shops in Thomasville. ONE of them!

Playing:  Christmas music.  Lots of it!  Jordan Smith’s album is still a frequent flier, and I just located my Christmas in Velvet album.  That was my favorite album when I was growing up (back when it really was a physical LP album!), and I still love it.

Link-up:  Be sure to click over to Anne and Kellie to see what they (and a lot of other fun folks) are CURRENTLY up to!

So, what are YOU currently doing, enjoying, cooking, wrapping, and playing?!?  DO tell in the comment section below!

The Last 10 Photos on My Phone

The Last 10 Photos on My Phone

I saw this fun idea over on In Residence and thought it would be a lot of fun to do here too!  Here are (pretty much) the last 10 photos on my phone.

  1.  A gorgeous cappuccino at The Front Porch, a new coffee shop here in my town.  This place is so calm that my blood pressure drops when I walk through the front door.
  2. Meet Arwen, my son’s cat.  He (my son, not the cat ’cause she’s a girl) is in the Air Force, and she (the cat) misses him.  As do I!
  3. My desk when I walked into work Monday.  It was clean when I left last Wednesday!  (I’m a part time admin/financial secretary at a local church.)
  4. The gorgeous salt pig I ordered from Meesh’s Pottery on Etsy.  This gorgeous guy will hold nutritional yeast since I already have another salt pig that holds salt.
  5. I was so engrossed by Finding Dory that my FitBit thought I was asleep!  (Great movie and/but it really throws some deep punches for parents.  Especially for parents of kids who have extra challenges.)
  6. Another trip to The Front Porch, this time for iced coffee.  Do you sense a trend yet?!?
  7. The wreath I made for our front door.  I love that part of the blue field is actually camo; it’s a nod to our being a military family.
  8. It’s time for me to freshen up some parenting skills!  This is a great book for anyone who has kids in middle school or older.  I’ll do a full review soon.
  9. The Great Tadpole Rescue!  I need to get my daughter to guest post this whole story!  Short version:  She got her dad to move the tadpoles from her dog’s water trough to the wetlands behind our house.
  10. I made my very first trip to Trader Joe’s yesterday with a good friend of mine!  Wow!  So many special treats to choose from!  These chocolate covered espresso beans were just one of several items that came home with me.

So now you know what’s been going on in my world lately!  Any fun pictures on your phone right now?  Do you love salt pigs as much as I do?  Do you love that my salt pig is a PIG?!?  Chime in below!  Comments are what make this fun!

(Curious about salt pigs?  Check out my newer post:  What IS a Salt Pig Anyway?!?)
