Summertime Fun List 2017
Today is the summer solstice! This day always makes me a little sad because the days will begin to get shorter, but today I shall focus on being HAPPY about summertime! I’m joining up with some other bloggers to share our bucket/fun lists for this sunny season!
I live near Savannah, Georgia, and y’all, it is HOT here! My springtime fun list featured a lot of outdoor activities, but my summertime fun list includes a lot of indoor, stay-in-the-air-conditioning-so-we-don’t-have-a-heat-stroke goals.
Here’s what I hope to do during summer 2017:
- Pantry: Reorganize my pantry.
- Boxes: Clear boxes out of garage.
- Letters: Write one real letter each week.
- New Places: Eat at two new restaurants in Savannah.
- Books: Read at least five books from Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Summer Reading Guide.
- Intentional Friendship IRL: Meet up with a friend at least once a month. (IRL means “in real life.”)
- Intentional Friendship Virtually: Skype with a long-distance friend at least once a month.
- Time for Parents: Call my parents and my in-laws once a week.
Here’s the (little) scoop on each goal.
Pantry: We’ve been in our house about two and a half years now, and it’s time to sort out my pantry. Parts of it work; parts of it just don’t.
Boxes: Did I mention we’ve been in our house about two and a half years now? Yeah. It’s time to deal with the last of the boxes. Seriously.
Letters: This was on my springtime fun list, and I wrote NOT ONE LETTER. Epic fail, dear readers. I will do better this season!
New Places: Going into downtown Savannah is a pain in the neck, but it’s such a beautiful place once we get there! I’ve said it before, but I need to just put this on the calendar so that we have a better chance of making it happen.
Books: I love to read!!! Summertime is a perfect time to grab a glass of tea and hit the sofa with a good book. Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Summer Reading Guide stoked my reading flame, and I’m ready to dig in!
Intentional Friendship IRL: Surely I’m not the only one who sees a friend at church and says, “We really MUST get together soon!” and then we don’t. I’m determined to be intentional about actually making that happen. Hopefully I can do this more than once a month, but I figure once is better than never.
Intentional Friendship Virtually: My friends live all over the world. That’s what comes from being an Air Force family! I’ve promised a friend of mine for months now that we’ll Skype “sometime.” That time is here. Technology is too good and too easy to NOT do this.
Time for parents: My parents aren’t on Facebook, and I forget that they’re not seeing all my amazing status updates about what’s going on in my life! Days (weeks?!?) go by, and I haven’t called my mom and dad just to chat. That’s unacceptable. (My mom and I text a bit, but we all know that’s not the same.) My mother-in-law IS on Facebook, but calling to chat still needs to happen! I’ve been way too lazy about this.
I’m excited about tackling my list! Do YOU have a summer fun list? What do YOU have going on? Leave a comment below and let me know!

Those boxes need to go! Lol. Seriously though, we’ve recently moved interstate & to get to know our new area I have a heap of places written down on pieces of paper & every Sunday we have to pick something. So much fun. Have a fabulous summer.
Rrrgh! Those boxes! They’re out of sight and out of mind! Most of the stuff out there needs to find a home inside, or it needs to go away. It’s time to choose, I’m thinking! This will not be a FUN chore, but it’ll be great to have it done. My husband will be happy, for sure! Thanks for stopping by!
Don’t get heatstroke in the pantry!
I can’t even imagine Savannah summer heat.
It’s hot out here in Los Angeles, “But it’s a dry heat”, as “they” say.
My mom spends her winters up on Fripp Island, SC, and I’ve visited her a couple of times, but I’ve never explored Savannah. Someday!
Oh, DO visit Savannah someday! Just not in the summertime! LOL!
I love this list, Michael Ann. I recently set a goal to see a family member (not living in my home) or friend at least once a week. It sound so simple, but I actually have to plan something in advance, or it doesn’t always happen. On another note, my husband and I visited Savannah with a friend a few years back. We loved it! Good luck with your list.
Happy summer!

Yes! Being intentional about getting together with someone once a week would be fantastic! Good for you! I’m so glad you enjoyed Savannah! It’s a beautiful place, for sure!
I love organizing, so I’d be there in a sec to help you with your pantry—if I lived a little closer, ha ha!!
We just moved 2 years ago—and hid our extra boxes in my mom’s basement!! Out of sight, out of mind, right? LOL!

I’m actually hoping to drag a friend over to help me with my pantry project! I think I need new eyes on it. And hooray for storing your boxes elsewhere! THAT’s a great strategy! LOL!
Keeping cool sounds like a great plan, especially when it’s hot and humid outside. Your parents and friends will love to hear from you. I find the last box always the hardest to get rid of 🙂
We really do have to work around the summer heat! It’s crazy! Beautiful sunshine outside but WAY to hot to be out in it. I’m really looking forward to writing and sending letters/notes! And yes, those last few boxes are a challenge, aren’t they! What if I get rid of something and then need it?!?
I hope I’m one of your IRL friend gettogethers!! I have “declutter” on my summer home projects list! You know, if you haven’t used/wanted it in over two years you can just get rid of it…😱
You ARE! You ARE! I’m looking forward to our beach day! And YES! If the stuff in these boxes hasn’t been needed in 2+ years, it can probably go away! Some of it is Sonlight stuff from when we used some of our own display stuff. Some of it is items from Grandma’s house; I, perhaps, might be avoiding going through that for emotional reasons! I need to do it though. I want to get it all sorted and put away. It’ll feel good to know everything is in its place!
So blessed to have you as a friend. Love your summery graphic. How did you make it? Just perfect.
I have started printing photos and sending them to my mom in a letter. She doesn’t get on FB any more and I forget that she doesn’t see us for months and months at a time. Prints are so inexpensive. Sometimes I throw in a magnetic photo frame, too.
Thank you so much for your support and friendship and for joining in this link-up.
Awww, thanks, Leslie! I appreciate your friendship too! I made my summer graphic using Canva. I picked one of their designs and then edited it to meet my needs. Have you used Canva? I really like it! It’s just what I need for some things.
What a great idea, sending photos to your mom! I need to print a few of our Alaska pics out for my mom and my MIL. I should go write that in my bullet journal right now!
Thanks for putting this linkup together! Happy Summer!
We are in Winter here Michael Anne so we just had the shortest day of the year. As you can see from my Winter Bucket List the days are gorgeous so I don’t mind Winter where I live in Brisbane. I’m definitely checking out your Mrs Darcy’s Summer Reading Guide because I love reading! Organising your pantry is something we all put off isn’t it but we just have to do it. I also love the Skype idea. I’ve made so many friends from blogging who are scattered all over the world and I never think about Skyping. Thanks for that idea and good luck with your list.

Thanks for stopping by, Sue! Let me know what books you pick out and if you decide to Skype some friends! I love meeting people from all over the world! Happy Winter! Keep sizzling!
Well now you have me nervous about dealing with all those boxes after our upcoming move this July. I am going to try and label them in somewhat detail, so hopefully that will help. Thank you for the reminder!
Going to dine in Savannah sounds like so much fun, once you get there at least. (I do understand about traffic, if that is the hassle factor you are referring to.) Hoping you post lots of photos, plus share where you dined, yum! ☺
LOL! Don’t be nervous! I think we all, after a move, end up with a few boxes of stuff that just doesn’t fit anywhere or that we MIGHT need one day! Plus, throughout my husband’s whole Air Force career we tended to hang to things because we might need them at the next house! PLUS, I’m out of sight out of mind, so if the boxes are in the garage, they do not exist!
Yes, dining in Savannah is amazing! The parking and traffic, less so. Stay tuned! I’ll definitely share updates! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment!
I love that so many things on your list are about establishing and maintaining relationships. I can’t remember the last time I’ve written an actual letter, what a pleasure someone will have when they receive it.
Especially great to maintain contact with parents… things change so fast!
Yes, God certainly has working on relationships on the agenda for me right now! I *do* have frequent contact with my parents, but I want to be better about calling just to chat and have a fun conversation! It IS important, I agree!
Put me under that Intentional list. We’ll meet in Jax for an IKEA date when it opens! 😘
Definitely! And one of my Jacksonville friends wants to visit Thomasville, so OF COURSE I need to go too and show her where to eat and shop!
You have this listed as summer fun. It sounds like work on the pantry and box end of things. The reading, getting together, and skyping long distance friends, now that is fun! I am a long distance friend….
My summer fun list involves getting ready for a gallery of 30 paintings August 1st. That waffles between work and fun, mostly fun. We are cruising to Alaska the end of July.
Ha! I was wondering if anyone would call me on that! Definitely a few things on my list will NOT be fun in the doing, but OH how nice it’ll be to have them DONE! Your paintings are amazing, Lori! How wonderful that you’ll have a gallery! EXCITING!!! And Alaska too?!? Gene and I are eager to get back up there sometime! We had a blast! And YES, you’re on my list of long distance friends I need to Skype! I miss you!
