Currently – August 2019
I totally missed last month’s Currently link up. I was going to do a UK Vacay Edition and might still backtrack and do it. For right now though, I’ll play along with this month’s prompts from Anne at In Residence.
I am CURRENTLY…
ordering: espresso powder. I’ve been wanting some for months now and finally ordered it. Now I just need to bake with it! Hmmmm. Any suggestions for a chocolate recipe that can be amped up with espresso powder?
watching: So. Much. Hallmark Channel. I was sick for nearly two weeks in July and all I was capable of doing was dozing on the sofa. Thankfully this coincided with the two weeks of Hallmark Christmas Movies. I had seen them all before, so it didn’t matter if I fell asleep. Now I’m recovering from foot surgery and am once again finding myself soothed by Hallmark movies playing in the background as I doze on the sofa and ice my foot.
cooking: pre-prepped meals. I worked hard to get a few meals prepped before my foot surgery to make things easier here at home. I made a tomato-base beef stew and a wonderful hash made of ground lamb, butternut squash, onions, and spinach. Both of these recipes came from Prep Dish, and they’re fantastic! Scope out Prep Dish HERE and then click HERE to sign up for two FREE weeks and a 3-month plan and HERE for the deluxe annual plan (the one you really want to get!). (Yes, the sign-ups ARE affiliate links. You don’t pay any more; I just get a bit of commission.)
wondering: what all is going to be on the Get Your Pretty On Style Challenge for Fall 2019! Fall is always my favorite, and I’m eager to see the list! I’m seeing LOTS of leopard and snake prints in stores. Those are trends that I might want to try, but I know I’m going to love the other, more classic colors that are showing up! Click HERE to find out more about these fun, economical style challenges, and then I’ll share the link to the fall challenge when it opens.
savoring: reading time. After a couple of months of not reading very much, I’m on a great reading streak. Here are some of the books I’ve read lately:
The Echo Killing and A Beautiful Corpse by Christi Daughterty. Both of these are mysteries set in Savannah, where I live. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series!
Garlic & Sapphires and Save Me the Plums by Ruth Reichl. Memoirs aren’t normally my thing, but I really enjoyed both of these foodie books.
A Share in Death and All Shall Be Well by Deborah Crombie. Thank you, Modern Mrs. Darcy/Anne Bogel, for recommending this new-to-me mystery/police procedural series.
And speaking of Anne Bogel, I’ve been working through her Summer Reading Guide and recently read (with my ears) The Mother-in-Law: A Novel by Sally Hepworth and The Accidental Beauty Queen by Teri Wilson. While these two books were very different, both surprised me with their depth, and both were fantastic listens.
Well, that wraps things up for me today! How would YOU answer these prompts?!? Let me know in the comments! It’s always fun to see what others are CURRENTLY up to!

Girl!! I’m so sorry to hear about your foot surgery! I hope you’re all mended now. R&R is fun, but when it’s necessary…that seems to make it harder. At least you had your lovable kitty to keep you comfortable!
Love you, friend!
Thanks, Mary Jane! Recovery is going well so far. I’m thankful to have had this surgery to repair arthritis damage in my big toe! Life will be less painful soon, and I’m grateful! And yes, kitties help healing! It’s a proven fact! 😻
Just catching up. Glad you are way past this now. Man this seems like yesterday!
Right?!? It’s been a LONG year, but it’s gone by fast too. How is that possible?!?
