Of Olives, Vinegar, & Online Learning

I’m SO excited to share this with you guys! Gene and I visited Greenville, South Carolina earlier this year–BC, Before COVID–and we discovered their local Oil & Vinegar shop. I immediately fell in love with it. I didn’t know much at all about olive oils or vinegar, and/but I love learning new things!

The gentleman working that day (I think his name was Robert) was kind, friendly, and incredibly helpful.  He guided us through the shop and suggested some oils and vinegars for us to sample.  We ended up buying a couple of oils, a couple of vinegars, and a couple of maple syrups to bring home.

Robert mentioned that they offered classes.  I love nothing more than a good class, but I knew I’d miss out since we live several hours away.  I thought maybe I could coordinate our next visit to Greenville to match up with a class.

BUT THEN the pandemic hit, and we’re all pivoting all over the place.  In this case, Oil & Vinegar’s pivot was my gain!  They’re now offering online classes!!!  You KNOW I signed up immediately!

A few days before my first class I received a package of sample oils and vinegars and an outline of the class.  The outline gave me instructions for what food to prep ahead of time and what utensils I should have at hand.

Everything prepped and ready for class!

Chef Veera taught us all about olive and grape seed oils and different kinds of vinegar. How they’re made. Where they come from.  Health benefits.  Tons of helpful info!

She also taught us how to taste olive oil and determine its quality.  (Hint: coughing is key!)  And then she led us through the steps of making two vinaigrettes and a shrub.  YUM!!!  I’ll let the pictures do the talking for a minute!

Mattie participated too! (She was just after the parmesan!)

Chef Veera is a great teacher!  She’s very easy to follow and teaches the interactive classes with authority and an upbeat attitude.  I highly encourage you to take one (or two!) of her upcoming classes!

My first class was “Exploring the Worlds of Oils and Vinegars.” Chef Veera will offer this class again on Wednesday, October 7 at 1 PM ET and again at 5:30 PM ET.  Get all the info and sign up for it HERE.

The next class I plan to take is “Tips for Following the Mediterranean Diet.” Chef Veera will offer this class on Wednesday, September 30 at 5:30 PM ET and on Tuesday, October 20 at 1:00 PM ET and again at 5:30 PM ET.  Get more info and sign up HERE.

This isn’t sponsored at all!  I just wanted to let you know about a GREAT opportunity to learn new things!  I’ve enjoyed applying what I’ve learned in my first class.  Chef Veera has LOTS of fantastic recipes on her blog.  I made several of them this weekend and CAN’T WAIT to share those with you later this week!  I’ll let you know exactly which oils and vinegars I’ve tried and loved!  Stay tuned!

  1. I hope to go to Greenville in March! I’ll have to visit the shop! Which class are you going to take? I may join you!

    1. Do visit the shop if you have time next spring! Or order online before then. (Call your order in!) I’m taking the Tips for Med Diet Cooking class. Can’t wait!
